Interesting Kids Through Story

One of the best ways to intrigue a child is by reading them a story.  Each turn of a book page draws them further into a world of make believe (or reality) and wraps them in interest to see how it will end.  Here are a few of my children's favorites:

  2. I LOVE little bear stories. I haven't seen the pout pout fish. I'll have to try it. My toddler, and other kids when they were toddlers, all loved the Sandra Boynton books like The Belly Button Book and But Not the Hippopotamus, etc. As for me, I love Don and Aubrey Wood books, Chris Van Allsberg and Graeme Base. There's a book we found at a flea market while overseas called the Bear Dance. It's out of print, I don't know why it's so adorable. It's by Chris Riddell and you can get it used from Amazon. It should have won an award the illustrations are great. I also love Singing to the Sun by Vivian French which we found at the same flea market--also at Amazon but not out of print. It's a great twist on a modern type fairy tale. I could go on forever about kids books so I'll stop.

  3. My 9-year old is really into chapter books about hamsters right now and you'd be surprised how many there are. She is reading one right now from the library and the next one on her list is something about a psychic hamster. Crazy! Not exactly a classic. :)
